1 Day Workshop

Date: 23 February 2024

Time: 8.30am with a 9.00am sharp start and a 5.00 pm finish

Overview:

We are so excited to kick off our 2024 workshop calendar with our friend and preserving mentor.

Rhonda Gillen is an expert homemaker and crafter admired by all who have a chance to glimpse into her world and her pantry. To Simmone - Rhonda is her culinary fairy godmother, and her pantry is a wonderland.

After a lovely morning tea and an introduction from Simmone, Rhonda will guide us through the technique of preserving using both the fowler and the ball jar methods. This workshop will be interactive so we will all get a chance to preserve and take home a booklet of “how too”, recipes and methods.

Simmone will prepare a beautiful lunch using both preserves from Rhonda’s pantry and organic vegetables from our own garden at the Shearer’s Quarters.

This workshop promises to be both informative and fun and we will all go home with new skills and lots of new friends.

 

About Rhonda Gillen:

Rhonda Gillan has been preserving on and off for over 40 years using both the Fowlers and Ball jar systems. She lives with her husband @brianthepotter on a small farm just outside Oberon. Rhonda uses a lot of homegrown fruit due to her small orchard and very generous neighbours. “There is no greater joy than opening a jar of your own preserves for a peach pie or a plum crumble or just nectarines with thick cream or ice cream. Once you start preserving you will be hooked” says Rhonda
